Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Angela Tanoesoedibjo expressed confidence that the domestic tourism movement target in 2023 of 1.4 billion can be achieved.

While opening the 2023 #DiIndonesiaAja (Just in Indonesia) Travel Fair (#DIATF) here on Friday, Tanoesoedibjo said her optimism is based on the record Eid al-Fitr exodus movements this year, as earlier conveyed by Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi.

"That is a positive indication that there is a strong demand among residents to travel to all parts of Indonesia," she stressed.

She said the government must make the most of all opportunities from the high demand among residents to travel to domestic destinations, including through the 2023 #DIATF.

"We hope that through this travel fair, we can optimize the opportunities. We still have several high season potentials until year-end, and let us optimize it together," she stated.

Meanwhile, Tanoesoedibjo remarked that the government has also set another target of 8.5 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia this year, which she believed will also be achieved.

She noted that 2.24 million foreign tourists had visited Indonesia in the first quarter of 2023 alone.

"In the third month (of 2023) alone, we recorded more than 800 thousand visits, and if we achieve even just an average of 700 thousand (visits monthly), we can reach the 8.5-million target (by year-end). We hope your support will make us achieve more than 10 million," the deputy minister remarked.

The travel fair, initiated by the coordinating minister of maritime and investment affairs, is aimed at supporting the implementation of the Proud of Travel in Indonesia (BBWI) movement program.

The 2023 #DIATF is taking place at the Kota Kasablanka Mall, South Jakarta, on May 19-21, 2023.
