Currently, the progress in the development of the dam has reached around 62 percent, and there is no significant obstacle.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono expressed optimism that the Jlantah Dam construction in Karanganyar District, Central Java Province, can be completed in December 2023.

"Currently, the progress in the development of the dam has reached around 62 percent, and there is no significant obstacle," he noted in a press release published on the ministry’s website on Saturday.

Hadimuljono made the statement while reviewing the progress achieved in the development of the dam in Karanganyar District on Friday (May 19, 2023).

He noted that the water infrastructure has a capacity of 10.97 million cubic meters (m3). The water for the dam originates from the Jlantah River and Puru River.

The dam is being built by two state-owned construction companies, PT Waskita Karya and PT Adhi Karya, from 2019 through an operational cooperation agreement (KSO), with a contract value of Rp965 billion (US$64.55 million).

Head of Bengawan Solo River Basin Center (BBWS) Maryadi Utama stated that the Jlantah Dam will become a multifunctional dam that can be used for micro hydro power plants (PLTMH), flood reduction, as well as natural conservation.

In addition, the infrastructure can provide economic benefits as a tourism destination and a source of irrigation.

The dam will be able to irrigate 1,494 hectares of rice fields in the sub-districts of Jatiyoso and Jumapolo in Karanganyar District. It can also become the source of raw water at 150 liters per second.

The Jlantah Dam construction project is also expected to strengthen food and water security in Central Java Province.

Apart from the Jlantah Dam, the PUPR Ministry is also building two other dams in the province: Bener Dam in Purworejo District and Jragung Dam in Semarang District.

Meanwhile, four dam development projects in Central Java Province had been completed.

These comprise the Gondang Dam in Karanganyar District; Logung Dam in Kudus District; Pidekso Dam in Wonogiri District; and Randugunting Dam in Blora District, with a capacity of 9.15 million m3, 20.15 million m3, 25 million m3, and 14.42 million m3, respectively.
