Jakarta (ANTARA) - The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated the archive of the first Indonesian President Sukarno's speech at the UN General Assembly in 1960 as a Memory of the World (MoW).

"Based on the plenary session of the UNESCO Executive Board on May 10-24, 2023, the archive of Sukarno's speech at the UN General Assembly in 1960 has been determined as an MoW," Indonesian National Archives ambassador Rieke Diah Pitaloka informed here on Thursday.

Pitaloka said the Sukarno's speech archive is entitled “To Build the World Anew.”

There are now three important archives from Indonesia referred to as the “Three Golden Inks of the 20th Century” that have been accorded MoW status, she highlighted.

In addition to Sukarno's speech at the UN General Assembly in 1960, the other two golden archives are the Asian-African Conference in Bandung in 1955 and the First Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade in 1961.

The three 20th-century archives, she informed, were proposed as MoWs through the National Archives of Indonesia (ANRI).

Pitaloka said that the three archives are symbolic capital for Indonesia to position itself in the current and future geopolitical arena.

"As well as a reminder to live in the political principles of the founding fathers that work for Indonesia's national interest as an independent and sovereign nation that is engaged in the struggle for world peace," she added.

In 2013, she talked with the fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, about the archives of the nation's history and traces that contribute to the world civilization.

In the discussion, it was stated that important archives have become the collective memory of the nation and the world, and they can be used as a guide for the current and future life of the Indonesian nation.

She also expressed gratitude to Soekarnoputri, President Joko Widodo, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, ANRI, and several ambassadors who supported the push for the archive’s recognition as an MoW.
