Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The National Library (Perpusnas) has appointed South Kalimantan Province as one of the hosts for librarian competency tests.

Head of South Kalimantan's Library and Archive Office Nurliani Dardie stated in Banjarmasin, Friday, that Perpusnas had designated South Kalimantan and 10 other provinces to host tests for librarians for obtaining certificates of competency.

"All the librarians' competence certification activities are fully-funded by Perpusnas," she stated.

Dardie remarked that the appointment reflected Perpusnas' honor and appreciation for South Kalimantan, as a province that it deemed capable of hosting such an event.

Furthermore, the appointment can be viewed as support from Perpusnas to the advancement of library programs in the province, she remarked.

Moreover, in 2021, the South Kalimantan Library recorded an achievement by clinching the top rank in terms of the literacy development index in Indonesia at 48.7.

Dardie affirmed that the province's library is ready to host the librarian competency certification tests, especially the one that is currently underway.

"Currently, as many as 65 librarians from all districts and cities in the province are participating in the competency test in South Kalimantan Library," she pointed out.

Dardie said that such a competency test is of essence to gauge the abilities and skills of librarians in the province.

"That, in turn, will enable them to gain recognition as library experts. They are all the crucial human resources to support the efforts to raise literacy interest in regions," he noted.

Regions require human resources capable of properly managing libraries and increasing the appeal of libraries in the eyes of the public, she emphasized.

"An increase in the public's visit to libraries would indicate the increase in literacy interest itself. Hopefully, all libraries in the province will experience such a trend," she concluded.
