The ministry will send delegates from 14 public and private Indonesian universities to the conference, which will be held in Washington D.C., the United States, from May 30 to June 2, 2023.
"The involvement of Indonesian universities in the event is expected to strengthen academic cooperation and cultural exchanges in the promotion of Indonesian universities at the international level," said Nizam, acting general director of higher education, research, and technology at the ministry, on Monday .
The NAFSA Association of International Educators is a non-profit association dedicated to international education and exchange. The organization has 10,000 members from 3,500 educational institutions in 160 countries.
The 14 Indonesian universities participating in the event include the University of Indonesia, IPB University, Gadjah Mada University, Airlangga University, Padjadjaran University, Hasanuddin University, and State University of Padang.
The University of North Sumatra, Gunadarma University, Telkom University, University of Surabaya, Binus University, Manado State Polytechnic, and Bali State Polytechnic are also joining the event.
Nizam said that by participating in the conference, Indonesian universities are expected to engage in greater cooperation with universities and business and industry actors at the international level.
"Expanding cooperation will be essential to strengthen the development of the academic, research, and innovation aspects in Indonesia and improve the nation's human resources," he added.
Meanwhile, IPB University said that for the NAFSA conference, it would offer cooperation in summer courses, research, and community services. The University of Indonesia will showcase innovative learning programs.
Airlangga University, besides exhibiting information about its programs, will also task its delegates with actively contributing to realizing cooperation with US institutions in various projects to open new collaboration opportunities.
Telkom University said that it will conduct intensive discussions on international mobility activities, collaborative research, and double-degree programs with potential partners.
Meanwhile, Gunadarma University will showcase its potential as an innovative and developed university in academics and research. Bali State Polytechnic will aim to establish new connections with other participants in teaching, research and community services during the event.
