Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahudin Uno is aiming to create 4.4 million new jobs in Indonesia by 2024 to drive the national economy.

"I invite all parties to develop synergy and align potential in the digitalization era to create these new jobs," Uno noted while attending the Indonesian creative district/city (KaTa Kreatif) workshop 2023 here on Saturday.

Currently, several countries are experiencing economic stagnation, and Indonesia's economy can still grow and develop amid the stagnating global economy, he noted.

"We have to be ready in facing this challenge by synergizing and exploring potentials in the digitalization age. If we do not digitalize, then we will be eliminated," he remarked.

Uno acknowledged the fact that he was fired from his job and had attempted to develop his business.

Initially, there were three employees and grew eventually to become a national business that opens jobs for 30 thousand employees across Indonesia.

According to the minister, the creative district/city workshop activity in Pangkalpinang is part of the government's efforts to develop the creative economy business to create new jobs.

"Along with the regional government, we will develop this region's creative economy products as well as tourism destinations," he stated.

He believes that Pangkalpinang, the capital city of Bangka Belitung Islands Province, is a city that drives advancement.

This is because some time ago, the city had undergone the selection process as a creative city in the culinary field.

"Culinary products, such as kricu, otak-otak, and others, are the strength of Pangkalpinang to be collectively prioritized at the national and international level," he stated.

Mayor of Pangkalpinang Maulan Aklil thanked the minister for his visit to the event to motivate micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and creative economy players in the city.
