"I would like to ask the government, specifically the Finance Ministry, to increase state revenue by optimizing taxes, intensifying export activities, and empowering MSMEs," the speaker noted in a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
According to Soesatyo, the Finance Ministry should take such measures in a bid to maintain the country's economic growth amid an increase of Rp5,125.1 trillion (around US$ 344 billion) in government debt during the 2015-2022 period.
He pressed for the ministry to continue to improve its government debt management while emphasizing the need to ensure that funds from the debt are allocated accurately for the country's efforts in financing its productive sectors and priority spending.
"The Finance Ministry needs to ensure that the debt is (accurately) allocated, with a special focus on supporting the country's efforts to finance its productive sectors and priority spending in the hopes of maintaining Indonesia's economic growth potency amid the uncertainty of global economic conditions," he noted.
Furthermore, Soesatyo appealed to the ministry to formulate policies to address government debt in a more careful manner. This may be carried out by monitoring and endeavoring to limit the General Government Debt to 60 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), he remarked.
"I would also like to ask the government, the Finance Ministry, in particular, to carefully formulate policies for addressing the government debt, including by monitoring and ensuring that the government debt ratio remains (below) the maximum of 60 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP)," he stressed.
