"Alhamdulillah (thank God), blind judo achieved the target, namely the target of 8 gold. Alhamdulillah, blind judo won 11 gold and 5 silver," the head coach of Indonesia's blind judo team, Imam Kuncoro, said here on Tuesday.
According to him, the success of the blind judo team is inseparable from the support of several parties.
"We convey our gratitude to the government, in this case, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Indonesian NPC (National Paralympic Committee) for facilitating us for 8 months to practice for the ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia," he said.
The gold medals were won by:
- Junaedi (J1/-60kg)
- Rizal Saepul Azis (J1/-73kg)
- Fajar Prambudi (J1/-90kg)
- Tony Ricardo Mantolas (J2/+90kg)
- Yovan Rate Azis (J2/-60kg)
- Marialam Sihotang (mix combine/ -57kg)
- Gus Irvan Madum Ibrahim (J2/-90kg)
- Scolastica Nadya Valentin (J2/-48kg)
- Novia Larassati (J1/-48kg).
Meanwhile, the 5 silver medals were bagged by Elda Fahmi Nur Taufik (J2/-90kg), Nurul Fadilah J2/-57kg), Bayu Pangestu Aji (J2/-60kg), Sahrul Sulaiman (J2/-73kg), and Yuliana Marika Keyn (J1/-70kg).
Athlete Tony Ricardo Mantolas, whose win secured the men's team win, said that the match with Thailand in the final was quite tough.
"However, because the coach gave good instruction, we were able to control our emotions and could turn things around at the end of the match," the judo player added.
"I dedicate this to Indonesia, the Indonesian NPC, East Java NPC, and all Indonesians," he remarked.
