"National Creative Economy Day will soon be jointly proposed to be commemorated on October 24," Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno noted in his official statement here on Thursday.
This proposal was made to celebrate the creative economy, as it is expected to encourage growth and development of the creative economy in a sustainable manner towards realizing the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.
Uno said that this aligned with the statement made by President Joko Widodo at the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) in Bali some time ago that the creative economy is the backbone of the economy and the future of the Indonesian nation.
The minister is also upbeat that Creative Economy Day will offer the necessary momentum for creative economy actors to collaborate and work together in building ecosystems that drive national economic growth.
Deputy Secretary for Digital Economy and Creative Products of the ministry, Riwud Mujirahayu, explained that the creative economy is an important sector and forms the backbone of the Indonesian economy.
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), contribution of the creative economy sector to Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020 had reached around 7.4 percent, with a value of around Rp1,087 trillion.
In addition, the creative economy sector significantly contributes to the creation of jobs, wherein during the same year, some 17.6 million people had worked in that sector.
"The strength of Indonesia's creative economy comes from a very rich cultural and artistic diversity, so this is one of the advantages for developing the creative economy sector," he affirmed.
