Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has encouraged the young Indonesian diaspora to participate in deciding the nation's future by voting in the upcoming 2024 General Election.

"I encourage our young voters abroad to register, to ensure their participation in the election. Do not abstain, because by doing so you are not participating," the vice president stated, as per the written statement received here.

While visiting Batamindo Green Farm in Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday (June 7), Amin said that Indonesian youth residing abroad are an educated group who can better determine the best leaders for the Indonesian nation.

"While not all (Indonesian) youth living abroad are university students, I believe they are more discerning to decide the best leader for this nation," he said.

"What is important is that they should vote," the vice president stressed.

Amin also said that he believed the young diaspora members have their own judgement and expectations in considering their preferred leaders.

"(I believe) they have their own consideration and conscience to decide their choice," he said.

Last April, the General Elections Commission (KPU) declared more than 205 million voters, including Indonesians abroad, who have been included in the preliminary electoral roll (DPS) for the 2024 Elections.

At the national-level electoral roll recapitulation plenum on April 18, KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari said that the 205 million voters included in the preliminary electoral roll comprise 102,847,040 male voters and 103,006,478 female voters.

The preliminary electoral roll is produced by reports from 38 provinces, 514 cities and districts, 7,277 sub-districts, and 83,860 villages and local election organizers in Indonesia and abroad.

Meanwhile, the number of polling stations for the 2024 Elections in Indonesia and abroad is projected to reach 823,287.
