Parigi, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has allocated Rp 250 million (USD 16.8 thousand) to assist with efforts following flooding in Balinggi and Torue sub-districts in Parigi Moutong, Central Sulawesi.

"This budget aid is for operational activities during the disaster emergency response," staff at National Disaster Mitigation Agency Jahidin Chilo said during his visit to Parigi Moutong on Friday.

Chilo stated that the government's action is urgently needed during such situations, given that the public is still weakened, thus they needs to be aided during the recovery.

During disaster emergency responses, the regional government is focused on fixing the infrastructure that were impacted by the incident, particularly on river activities and the fulfillment of people's basic needs, he pointed out.

Therefore, logistical aids, such as food ingredients, tents, and tools, are needed at such times, he added.

"We expect that regional government would assist the victims of disaster. What the people needs to be met immediately," he noted.

He also said that other logistical aids, other than money which was granted by the agency, included two units of refugee tents, 300 hygiene kits, 500 bundles of staple foods, 10 units of generators, 300 tools, 1000 mattresses and 1000 beds. The total of the aid has reached Rp 2.3 billion (USD 155 thousand).

Chilo also suggested that Parigi Moutong's Food and Horticultural Office seek aid from ministries, so the ministries could follow up on the issue of their damaged agricultural soil.

Abdul Karim, a resident from Catur Karya Village, Balinggi, said he expect the government to pay more attention to victims whose homes were damaged by the floods.

Catur Karya Village is one of the areas which was struck during the disaster. In this area, two houses are badly damaged, eight were mildly damaged, and 12 families comprising of 41 people had to take shelter.

"What we urgently need is a place to stay. My house is gone, swept away by the flood. I hope the government can find a solution," he noted.
