Solok, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - Some farmers from ASEAN countries visited a dairy farm in Sirukam, Solok District, West Sumatra, as part of the ASEAN Dialogue Partner's Exchange Farmers Visit and the 16th National Farmers and Fishermen Week (Penas Tani).

Solok District Head Epyradi Asda said here on Tuesday he was grateful that Sirukam Village in Solok was chosen as the place for sharing information on the agricultural sector with all ASEAN farmers.

"We hope to share information with each other so that it can be useful in developing the agricultural sector in their respective regions," he added.

At the event, the owner of Sirukam Dairy Farm spoke about the facilities, technological advances, and potential in the agricultural and livestock sector.

The Solok district head and the dairy farm owner, along with all the Penas Tani participants, conducted a field visit to explore the facilities and technology used by the dairy farm.

The activity was a continuation of previous dialogues on several current issues in agriculture, such as the food crisis threat due to El Nino and the next young agripreneurs.

A representative from the Agriculture Ministry, Muhammad Amin, said he hoped that the visit would provide useful lessons for Penas Tani participants.

"We appreciate the efforts of the Solok district government in building a better agricultural sector," he added.

Representatives of several ASEAN countries from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines as well as ASEAN's dialogue partners Japan and the United States, attended the event.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto while virtually opening the 16th National Farmers and Fishermen Week, said that the government is committed to meeting national food needs by increasing production and intensifying local food consumption.

The government is also making efforts to introduce food commodities to other countries for export.

In addition, the government is facilitating the use of agricultural tools and machinery, the provision of smallholder business credit (KUR), social forestry, and land for agrarian reform objects (TORA), Hartarto said.
