It is expected that the public can utilize SATRIA-1's internet capacity gradually starting from January 2024
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Republic of Indonesia Satellite (SATRIA-1) is launched in order to equalize development, especially in the provision of digital infrastructure in public service centers across Indonesia, Acting Communication and Informatics Minister Mahfud MD stated.

"This is an effort to equalize development and include the people in digital economy with the provision of internet in the area and in the country," he remarked here on Tuesday.

According to Mahfud, the launch of SATRIA-1 is a solution to expand internet coverage to villages that cannot be reached by optic fiber technology within the next decade.

Through internet access provided by SATRIA-1, people at public service locations that do not yet have internet access or have inadequate quality internet will receive significant benefits.

The main priorities for internet access from SATRIA-1 comprise the education sector, health service facilities, regional government offices, as well as the National Defense Force (TNI) and National Police (Polri).

SATRIA is a project undertaken through the public-private partnership (KPBU) scheme, with the Communication and Informatics Ministry acting as the cooperation project's supervisor through its BAKTI Public Service Agency.

Meanwhile, PT Satelit Nusantara Tiga acts as the multifunction satellite's operating enterprise (BUP) that was formed by the PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara (PSN) consortium.

PT PSN, as one of the consortium members, is the first private satellite company in Indonesia that has experience as a satellite operator for Indonesia and Asia for over 32 years.

The ministry is conducting ground segment procurement preparation in 11 regions comprising Cikarang, Batam, Banjarmasin, Tarakan, Pontianak, Kupang, Ambon, Manado, Manokwari, and Jayapura.

"It is expected that the public can utilize SATRIA-1's internet capacity gradually starting from January 2024," Mahfud remarked.

SATRIA-1 is scheduled to launch in Space X, Cape Canaveral, Florida, the United States. Mahfud remarked that the satellite launch can be witnessed directly through the ministry's official YouTube channel on June 19, 2023.

"On this occasion, support and prayers from all of the Indonesians is expected for the success of SATRIA-1's launch and operation," he remarked.
