The Transportation Ministry will work on repair at the Benuo Taka Port to provide ease to the logistics distribution to the new capital city of Indonesia.
Penajam (ANTARA) - The government of North Penajam Paser district, East Kalimantan province, has granted land at Benuo Taka Port to the Transportation Ministry to support the development of the new capital Nusantara (IKN).

The district government has granted land measuring 20 thousand square meters to the ministry, Acting Assistant at the District's Regional Secretariat Nicko Herlambang confirmed in Penajam on Tuesday.

Herlambang said that the land grant document has been handed over to the ministry, adding that there is more documentation that still needs to be completed.

According to him, the district government has decided to grant land to the ministry in order to back the central government’s efforts to construct supporting infrastructures at the port situated in the vicinity of the new capital.

"The Transportation Ministry will work on repair at the Benuo Taka Port to provide ease to the logistics distribution to the new capital city of Indonesia," he informed.

The granted land will be used as a site for the construction of the land side of the dock, road access from the dock to the land (trestle bridge), and the piling yard in the area of the Benuo Taka Port in Buluminung village, North Penajam Paser district.

A budget of approximately Rp76 billion–80 billion (around US$5 million–5.4 million) for the port's construction, improvement, and repair has been prepared by the Transportation Ministry for the 2023–2024 period, he disclosed.

Of the overall budget, the ministry has readied around Rp28.2 billion (US$1.9 million) this year for improving and repairing the port's docks, and the construction project has reached the auction stage.

Meanwhile, the budget for the construction of the Balikpapan Class I Port Authority and Harbormaster Office (KSOP) on the land side of the port will be allocated next year, he added.

All of the development efforts are aimed at making the port's services smooth, safe, and fast, in accordance with the applicable provisions and regulations.

Herlambang also affirmed that the land grant constitutes a concrete form of cooperation between the district government and the central government in efforts to boost the people’s economy.
