Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini is aiming to eliminate extreme poverty in Indonesia by 2024 in line with President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi’s) directives and the National Mid-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) target.

The minister stated here on Tuesday that her side is striving to reduce the poverty rate, from the current 1.74 percent -- or totaling around 5.5 million population of Indonesia -- to zero percent by 2024.

Rismaharini noted that the data of beneficiaries of the food assistance for the elderly and people with disabilities, assistance for orphans (YAPI), Integrated Welfare Home (RST) Program, and Nusantara Economic Heroes (PENA) Program continues to be updated to expedite extreme poverty eradication.

At least 100 thousand recipients of food assistance for the elderly, 33,775 beneficiaries of food aid for people with disabilities, 378,745 YAPI recipients, 595 RST beneficiaries, as well as 7,500 PENA beneficiaries were recorded in 2023.

"From November 2022 until now, some 2,700 beneficiaries of the 2022 PENA Program were recorded to have completed the program because their economy had improved. It is a good achievement," the minister remarked.

However, Rismaharini acknowledged that her side had encountered some difficulties in listing the potential beneficiaries of the programs, as it took a long time for the ministry to assess the potential beneficiaries to ensure that the assistance would be disbursed to the right recipients.

"Since it takes a long time, we can identify the conditions of the beneficiaries well, including everyone's name and address as well as which type of assistance should be given to each recipient," the minister remarked.

Rismaharini also expects all budget issues to be resolved at the earliest, considering that the assistance must be distributed immediately.

On the same occasion, the minister also announced that her side had received two certificates from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to ensure the security of the Social Affairs Ministry’s Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) system.

The two certificates were ISO 27001:2002 regarding information security as well as ISO 9001:2015 on quality management.
