Jakarta (ANTARA) - State health insurer BPJS Kesehatan has said that it will cover the treatment costs of National Health Insurance (JKN) participants who contract COVID-19 during the endemic era.

"(The treatment coverage) is for JKN participants who have COVID-19. All JKN participants are guaranteed or paid by BPJS if they are hospitalized," BPJS Kesehatan president director Ghufron Mukti told ANTARA here on Wednesday.

Mukti said, the financing system used during the endemic phase will be different from the one that was applied during the pandemic phase.

He said that the coverage of COVID-19 treatment costs will be adjusted to a patient’s diagnosis, just like in the JKN scheme.

Mukti also invited those who have not registered as BPJS Kesehatan participants to do so immediately, and said the treatment cost of COVID-19 can usually reach tens to hundreds of millions of rupiah.

"We urge people who have not yet become BPJS participants to register immediately because (the coverage for) participants who contract COVID-19 is guaranteed by BPJS Kesehatan," he said.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), on the 10th anniversary of the Jokowi for President Volunteer Front (Bara JP) in Bogor, West Java, on June 18, 2023, reminded the public that the government will no longer bear the treatment costs of COVID-19 patients during the endemic phase.

"Currently, it is still borne by the government; once we enter endemic, you will have to pay for the COVID-19 treatment. The consequences are that," he said.

Earlier, Mukti informed that his agency was still evaluating the financing mechanism for COVID-19 patients.

"If the government declared COVID-19 as endemic, BPJS Kesehatan will still cover it. The payment will use Ina-CBGs based on the diagnosis group," he said.

He further said that a more comprehensive government policy on the financing scheme for COVID-19 vaccination services for JKN participants is needed for the endemic period. (INE)
