Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno expressed optimism about tourism becoming one of the sectors that will accelerate efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"With the remaining time of less than seven years, I am optimistic that tourism can play an important role in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for the global community," Uno noted as per the statement here on Friday.

Hence, the Goa Roadmap, conceived during the G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting under India's G20 Presidency, has the role of pushing for a joint commitment and identifying guidelines for an effective contribution to SDGs, he remarked.

The minister affirmed that Indonesia fully supports the five priority sectors of green tourism, digitalization, skill development, tourism MSMEs, and destination management in the Goa Roadmap.

Goa Roadmap will complement the Bali Guidelines developed during Indonesia's G20 Presidency last year, Uno remarked while adding that continuity from earlier presidencies would be essential.

Uno highlighted that Indonesia has various sustainable tourism programs, including sustainable tourism destinations, tourism villages, carbon footprint accounting, as well as management of water, renewable energy, and green tourism.

"We are committed to developing green tourism in Indonesia, and at the same time, we commit to continue enhancing tourism competitiveness and empowering locals," he stated.

Locals could be empowered through various activities, such as capability improvement, training and guidance, certification and monitoring, and the development of management in collaborative governance, Uno remarked.

The minister also encouraged all parties to acknowledge the huge role of the creative economy in various sectors, including as the complement of the tourism industry.

He affirmed that Indonesia is ready to cooperate with all countries to rally funding support to advance G20 agendas and goals.
