The preparation of quality seeds plays an important role, so that the planned work program can proceed wellJakarta (ANTARA) - The provision of quality seeds in the upstream has become one of the challenges encountered in achieving the national aquaculture production target, Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry's Aquaculture Director General Tb Haeru Rahayu stated.
"The ministry carries out a work program based on blue economy with five main commodities, namely shrimp, lobster, crab, tilapia, and seaweed," he noted in a statement, Saturday.
"The preparation of quality seeds plays an important role, so that the planned work program can proceed well," he affirmed.
One of the undertaken approaches to address the production issue and meet the demand for quality brood stock and seeds is intensifying coordination through the formation of a national seed network, he stated.
Formation of the national seed network has been stipulated through Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministerial Decision No. 11 of 2022 on National Seed Network.
The national seed network improves the quality of brood stock candidates, brood stocks, and fish seeds.
The network can grow an effective, efficient and comprehensive seed and brood stock provision logistics ecosystem that aligns with decision-making both at the central and regional level.
Meanwhile, the ministry's Seed Director, Nono Hartanto, stated that the national seed network is a combination of elements from the central and regional governments.
These include the Aquaculture Directorate General's Technical Acting Unit (UPT), the ministry's Human Resources Agency UPT that handles the production of fish seeds and brood stocks, Regional UPTs in provinces and districts and cities, and private institutions in the brood breeding sector.
The ministry also collaborates with academicians as well as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) for technological development and quality brood breeding.
This aims to improve aquaculture efficiency and increase the production of quality seeds in society, Hartanto stated.
