Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Lestari Moerdijat has said that East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) could become a model for other regions in stunting alleviation.

"The success of using moringa leaves for alleviating stunting in NTT must be implemented in various other regions in Indonesia," she stressed here on Friday.

She made the statement during a meeting with representatives of the 1,000 Days Fund, a non-governmental organization that focuses on stunting handling, at her official residence.

According to her, the success in stunting alleviation in one region must be replicated in other regions. The active participation of all parties is highly necessary for accelerating stunting alleviation in various regions.

Nevertheless, the efforts must be adjusted to the condition in each region, she underlined.

Moerdijat further said that the active role of stakeholders in regions is vital for improving community awareness about the importance of eating a balanced diet from an early age.

She expressed the hope that the involvement of various parties would support the formation of cadres in regions who can help residents in their neighborhoods become free from the threat of stunting.

Stunting alleviation efforts must become a national movement to ensure the nation’s children become strong, competitive, and capable of facing future challenges, she added.

During Friday's meeting, the 1,000 Days Fund team shared its experience in establishing several stunting centers of excellence at a number of districts in NTT.

Indonesia's stunting prevalence declined by 2.8 percentage points to 21.6 percent in 2022 from 24.4 percent in 2021, as per the 2022 Indonesian Nutritional Status Survey (SSGI) carried out by the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, the government is targeting to bring down national stunting prevalence to 14 percent by 2024.
