Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Transportation Office is urging people who plan to visit the Jakarta Fair (Pekan Raya Jakarta/PRJ) at JIExpo in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, to use public transportation to help reduce traffic congestion in the area.

"We are continuously appealing to the public to use public transportation," said Syafrin Liputo, head of the Jakarta Transportation Office, on Friday.

For those heading to PRJ, they can use the commuter train and get off at Kemayoran Station, where a shuttle bus is provided.

He mentioned that PRJ is attracting larger crowds of visitors due to the Eid al-Adha holiday and the long weekend.

Since Tuesday (June 27, 2023), long traffic jams have been observed with vehicles queuing to enter the PRJ parking lot.

"Traffic congestion occurs in the area of Benyamin Sueb Street, as well as Angkasa Street and the surrounding roads," informed Liputo.

He stated that his office will continue to monitor the large number of people using private vehicles to go to PRJ.

"A parking lot has been prepared, but the crowd is entering at the same time, causing congestion," he added.

The Jakarta provincial government has prepared four TransJakarta bus routes to PRJ, namely:

  • 2C (Balai Kota-JIExpo)
  • PRJ1 (PGC 1-JIExpo Kemayoran)
  • PRJ2 (Matraman Baru-JIExpo Kemayoran)
  • PRJ3 (Pulo Gadung 1-JIExpo Kemayoran)
The special bus service for PRJ routes will run from June 14 to July 16.

The buses will operate from 3 pm to 11 pm local time from Monday to Friday, and from 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and Sunday.

The Jakarta Fair, the longest and largest exhibition in the Southeast Asian region, is being held for 33 days at the Jakarta International Expo (JiExpo). The exhibition was opened by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on June 14.

According to Ralph Scheunemann, the marketing director of JiExpo Kemayoran, this year's fair has attracted 2,500 companies, with 1,500 booths exhibiting flagship products and offering discounts.
