Medan (ANTARA) - The Criminal Investigation Agency is currently investigating allegations of blasphemy at Al Zaytun Boarding School, specifically those suspected to be perpetrated by Panji Gumilang, National Police chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo informed.

"Allegedly the boarding school did blasphemous activities," he said after inaugurating TK II Bhayangkara Hospital and Tapanuli Police Headquarters in Medan, North Sumatra on Wednesday.

The National Police Force's Criminal Investigation Agency is currently investigating the matter, he added.

"Currently, the Criminal Investigation Agency is conducting an investigation," he stated.

He said he expects people to entrust the case's proceedings to the police.

"Let's just wait for the result, alright?" Prabowo added.

On Monday (July 3), a team of investigators from the Directorate of General Crimes of the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency decided to pursue a further investigation into the alleged blasphemy perpetrated by Gumilang, the manager of Al Zaytun Boarding School in Indramayu, West Java.

Director of general crimes at the Criminal Investigation Agency, Brigadier General Djuhandhani Raharjo Puro said on Tuesday that Gumilang had been summoned to provide a clarification regarding the matter.

To date, police officials have spoken to four witnesses, five expert witnesses, as well as Gumilang. The investigation has found indications of alleged criminal activity.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD informed that the government has yet to decide whether to revoke Al Zaytun's permit or not.

"We have discussed about it, but we did not decide on such a thing," the minister said at the Vice Presidential Palace here on Tuesday.

The government is also considering a suggestion made by West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil on suspending the institution's permit, he added.
