Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ministry and the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) are aiming to help 10 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) hold initial public offerings (IPO) by 2024.

"We have cooperation for their incubation," Cooperatives and SMEs Minister Teten Masduki conveyed at BEI Building here on Monday.

"Today, I am happy that Teguk (a drinking franchise) has already entered (BEI) and the market response is extraordinary, hence, we are optimistic over small and medium enterprises that go public," he added.

In accordance with their target, his ministry and BEI will continue to provide assistance to MSMEs that are keen to go public in the Indonesian stock market.

"We are optimistic. I believe that we have to continue to push these small and medium enterprises that are going public because our economic structure is still dominated by micro and informal enterprises, which reaches 96 percent," the minister said.

The Cooperatives and SMEs Ministry will also collaborate with Securities Crowdfunding (SCF) to provide assistance to MSMEs.

"We have assisted 10 of them. Our expectation is that there will be an improvement to our economic structure so that medium enterprises can become bigger," Masduki said.

Earlier, the ministry encouraged the acceleration of MSMEs' plans to hold IPOs by signing a memorandum of understanding with BEI.

Through the involvement of BEI as an incubator, Masduki said he believes that the target to get 10 MSMEs to go public can be achieved faster since throughout this time, MSMEs have moved independently, which has made their road to an IPO longer.

Currently, of the 864 companies listed on the BEI, only 4 percent or 33 MSMEs have held IPOs.
