Director General Diana Kusumastuti explained that Nusantara City's total area reaches 256 thousand hectares, and the first development to commence there will be for the 6,671-hectare central government area (KIPP).
"The KIPP itself is divided into 1A, 1B, and 1C (areas). We expect the 1A area to have new buildings by 2024, while the 1B and 1C would follow soon," Kusumastuti stated during the "Creative Talks Literacy Corner" event here on Tuesday.
At the event organized by the Directorate General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, she noted that the core government area is expected to accommodate 280 to 300 thousand residents.
As the new capital is developed as a forest- and island-based future city, the director general stated that the new capital development is expected to not harm the environment.
Moreover, only 30 percent of the new capital's land area will be used for buildings, as the rest of the land will be maintained as green areas, she revealed.
"While we should continue our development, we must remain conscious of and ensure social, economic, and environmental sustainability," Kusumastuti stressed.
The new capital, including its development process, should also reflect the national identity instead of merely of a particular ethnic group.
"Hence, the development here is not an ordinary development, as we should develop better and be consistent with international standards," she emphasized.
On the same occasion, Director General of Information and Public Communication Usman Kansong stated that the national capital relocation from Jakarta to East Kalimantan is a symbol of the Indonesian nation's great leap.
So far, the government continues to prepare for the new capital development, he remarked, adding that various innovations developed by the people would be implemented throughout the process.
"We understand there are many Indonesian experts in their fields that can contribute to the nation to seek solutions and added value to our challenges, starting from the planning to the sustainable development of the new capital," Kansong remarked.
