"The ASEAN Summit will not merely serve as a stage for Indonesia to showcase its identity to the world, as it can also strengthen the economic growth of MSMEs in Jakarta," Hartono noted in Jakarta on Thursday.
The acting governor stressed that all parties, including communities, public and religious figures, as well as business actors, should work in synergy with the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Jakarta Provincial Governor in a bid to ensure the smooth running of the summit.
All elements of the nation have a crucial role in maintaining security, order, and comfort in Jakarta during the international high-level activity, he remarked.
In order to ensure successful holding of the event, Hartono expected support and synergy from all levels of government and society, as the activity constitutes one of the major events within the framework of Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship this year.
This year, Indonesia adopted the chairmanship theme of "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth" to reflect its goal of making ASEAN important and relevant as a global growth center.
Hartono also affirmed that the government will prioritize the improvement of human resources and city infrastructure by emphasizing the need to realize ecosystem and environmental balance to face the city's future role.
Currently, the Indonesian government is making tremendous preparations to relocate its capital city from Jakarta to the Nusantara new capital city (IKN) that will be situated in East Kalimantan Province.
"In the future, Jakarta will continue to function as the center of economy, culture, and education as well as the meeting axis of various nations and ethnic groups in Indonesia and the world, in general," he noted.
Earlier, Hartono confirmed that his government was ready to fully support activities of the summit delegates during their stay in Jakarta, adding that he was optimistic of the summit providing vast benefits to the development of tourism and business, especially those involving MSMEs.
"Jakarta offers an array of interesting tourist destinations and attractions. We are currently finalizing deliberations on the summit's concept as well as the locations that will be visited by the delegates," he pointed out.
