Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has continued to make efforts to reduce emissions to handle the climate crisis, an official from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Mochamad Saleh Nugrahadi, said.

"We already have policy formulation within the government to reduce the impact of climate change or reduce carbon emission," he added here on Monday.

To contribute to handling the climate crisis, Indonesia has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent through its own efforts and 41 percent with international support by 2030.

According to Nugrahadi, the government has drawn several scenarios to reduce the use of coal fuel and transition to more sustainable fuel. This step has been undertaken because creating energy from coal produces a large amount of greenhouse emissions.

The government is also continuing to encourage transportation electrification and clean industry, he said.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has also introduced color labeling, such as blue and green, to support this effort. This has been done in a very stringent manner, he informed.

The government is also carrying out efforts to restore the environment and using carbon capture and storage technology.

"We have all of that. These are several emission reduction efforts with the main goal of controlling climate change in Indonesia," Nugrahadi said.

Meanwhile, on a separate occasion, another official from the ministry, Nani Hendiarti, said in a written statement that handling climate change necessitates strong support and active role from various parties, including non-government institutions, communities, enterprises, academicians, and the media.

"Everyone, both individuals and organizations, need to do their part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By reducing greenhouse gas and maintaining biodiversity together, we can mitigate the negative impact of climate change and protect the Earth as our home for the future generation," she said.
