Jakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi on Tuesday reiterated his commitment to supporting the development of national talents' potential to realize the Advanced Indonesia vision envisaged by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"We are optimistic that the Advanced Indonesia vision established by Mr. President can be realized by our steps in the Ministry of Communication and Information," he said, according to a written statement issued on Tuesday.

At present, the digital technology ecosystem is constantly evolving and new technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and data science, are becoming more established, he explained.

Hence, the government is committed to providing full support for optimizing opportunities from digital innovation and helping national talents become proficient in the new technology.

"Our upcoming challenge is on the data science as the root of AI is on our talents' capability to become data scientists because, perhaps, applications will be replaced by data in the future," Setiadi said.

The minister highlighted that some advanced countries, such as the United States and China, are fostering their talents specifically for the digital technology sector.

Indonesia should also adopt the same approach to ensure local human resources can compete at the global level, he said.

"At present, the United States and China are competing, and we hope Indonesia will not be a mere spectator though the current technology, and its relevant aspects, are still dominated by Amazon Web Service and Google," the minister added.

Setiadi also expressed the hope that ministry officials will realize collaborative works under his and Deputy Minister Nezar Patria's leadership. They were both inducted by the President on Monday (July 17).

He said he expects the Onward Indonesia Cabinet to leave a concrete and collaborative legacy for future leadership.

"We hope our ministry will be one of the ministries (that everyone can) be proud of and will inherit a good legacy," he added.
