Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin called on young candidates of the military and police commissioned officers (capaja) to continue to hone their abilities and improve their quality to face challenges in keeping with the times.

"I order capajas to continue to hone their competence and ability to be ready to face various challenges along with the times," the VP stated here on Friday.

Amin made the statement at the 2023 Indonesian Military (TNI)-National Police (Polri) Capaja briefing event at Balai Sudirman in Jakarta.

The vice president remarked that while studying at the Capaja School, Capajas should gain knowledge on crucial aspects, such as leadership and professional skills in addition to academic skills.

This will in turn lead to the strong foundation of TNI and Polri as the foremost guard of the nation that provides protection, enforces the law, and upholds human rights.

The VP has urged Capajas to be model leaders that continue to uphold integrity in serving the community and state.

Amin also instructed them to never stop honoring the Sapta Marga (soldiers' ethic code), Sumpah Prajurit (Soldiers' Oath), 8 Wajib TNI (8 TNI obligations), and the Tribrata (Three Principles of Obligation).

Moreover, Amin called on the young candidates to devote themselves to Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and the nation's ideology Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, or Unity in Diversity.

Meanwhile, Indonesia continues to play its role and leadership at the global level, the VP affirmed.

After the success of the G20 Presidency, Indonesia is trusted to lead the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023.

According to Amin, this proved that Indonesia has an important role in the world arena and the ASEAN, in particular.

He emphasized that one of Indonesia's aspirations as a country is to participate in contributing to world peace.

Hence, to this end, he said, Indonesia should continue to strengthen its central role as a driver of peace as well as global and regional welfare while anticipating threats of geopolitical tensions.

"That is why the TNI and Polri need to be able to understand the dynamic international context," he added.
