Magelang, Central Java (ANTARA) - Each super-priority tourist destination in Indonesia will have a world-class health facility or hospital, according to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno.

The plan is based on the results of the National Coordination Meeting on the Development of Five Super-Priority Tourist Destinations, which was led by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, in Magelang District, Central Java, on Friday, Uno said.

He made the statement after delivering words of motivation to students of Bina Madani Putri Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in Grabag, Magelang district.

Uno said that the work of realizing world-class health facilities will be carried out in cooperation with international institutions and by bringing in the world's best doctors, including those from Indonesia.

The step is needed to make tourist destinations become centers of health tourism and wellness tourism, he stated.

He said that compared to Jakarta and other big cities, the air quality in Magelang is still very good. Apart from that, the region has beautiful scenery and friendly residents.

If given world-class facilities, Magelang can attract people and keep them from seeking health treatment abroad, he added.

"This is because every year, our people spend over Rp 160 trillion (around US$10.64 billion) to get health services abroad," Uno said.

To this end, in Magelang, a world-class health facility will also be built to create jobs and provide good health services to the community.
