"We are ready to apply a smart management system of rainwater and its runoff, including by monitoring rainfalls in IKN," Director of Green Transformation at the OIKN Agus Gunawan said during an online discussion followed in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to Gunawan, the authority will apply the management to optimize rainwater usage for a number of purposes.
"Usually, people just let rainwater in offices or houses to flow without utilizing most of it. However, we will optimize the water by storing it, so we can use it during dry season," he noted.
Therefore, both rainwater and its runoff can be optimized, he said, adding that a system is required to manage them.
With a good management system, the rainwater can be put to good use, such as for cooling systems in buildings, groundwater refill, and other recycle processes.
He also revealed that OIKN will recycle the used ablution water, categorized into grey water, which is a type of water that is not completely dirty, since it has been used only once for purposes other than drinking water and toiletries.
The water belonging to the category will later be processed and recycled into raw water for various purposes, such as watering plants, eliminating the need for clean water for such a purpose.
"Furthermore, we will also monitor rivers and apply the Supervisor Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to store all collected data regarding waste water management in a data center. Then, we can use the data for formulating waste water policies at a command control center," he noted.
