Serang, Banten (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Literacy Ambassador Heri Hendrayana Harris or better known by his pen name Gol A Gong invited parents to encourage their children to read more to increase their insights.

He conveyed this at the 2023 National Children's Day (HAN) commemoration in Serang City, Banten, on Sunday.

He said he is grateful that there were many children who were excited in participating in the HAN event, which includes literary activities such as poetry reciting and traditional dance performance.

"I am grateful that I have been invited by the Head of the Lentera Ilmu Communal Reading Park. I hope that many children will use their time to read books in this modern era," he said.

Harris said that parents can support their children in growing the habit of reading.

There were around 200 children who took part in a drawing competition, poetry reciting, and traditional dance shows during the National Children's Day event at the Lentera Ilmu Communal Reading Park in Unyur, Serang City.

Tuti (40), a mom, said she was happy that the children could develop their talents by participating in the event.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), I am very happy that my child can participate in this children's day event, rather than play mobile phones with the neighbor's children," she said.

Meanwhile, Serang Mayor Syafrudin hoped that children in Serang City will continue their education to the college level.

"In the framework of National Children's Day, we all agree that our children as the successors of the nation, must be protected their rights in education," he said.

He said all children in Serang City must be able to continue their education to elementary school, junior high school, high school, and university level, so that the quality of human resources in the city increases.
