Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry is committed to producing a competent workforce to meet the needs of the industrial world skilled in the field of digitalization in order to transform towards Industry 4.0.

Head of the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI) of the Ministry of Industry Masrokhan stated in Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday that to support new expansion and investment activities in the national manufacturing industry, his side is focusing on the availability of a productive, competent, and competitive workforce.

"We must be ready to adapt to a new paradigm that can accelerate the performance of the national industry, such as efforts to implement downstream industries, renewable energy, digitalization in Making Indonesia 4.0, and increasing national industrial human resources," he remarked.

The Ministry of Industry projects that the average increase in the need for workers in the industrial sector is 600-700 thousand people per year.

"Through our vocational education units and training institutions, we aim to meet up to 30 percent of the industry's total HR needs," he remarked.

In line with this target, in an effort to build superior industrial human resources for the global stage, the BPSDMI has organized vocational education and training programs, both for the workforce and prospective national workforce.

"Coordinated efforts are needed to increase industrial competitiveness and productivity through preparing a competent industrial workforce, namely the development of a vocational education and training system that can bridge industrial needs with the resulting competencies," Masrokhan remarked.

This coordination effort was manifested in the holding of this year's BPSDMI National Coordination Meeting themed "Industry 4.0 HR: Competent and Globally Competitive."

The national coordination meeting brought together all work units under the auspices of the BPSDMI, industry stakeholders and partners, the East Java Provincial Government, and vocational school partners in East Java.

"To expand the network and scope of cooperation with the industry, an MoU was signed between BPSDMI and several industrial partners, namely PT Mayora, PT Petrokimia Gresik, and PT Denso," Masrokhan remarked.

In addition, several MoU signings took place between the BPSDMI work unit and other industrial partners.

The collaboration established among the BPSDMI, vocational education and training units, industrial partners, and foreign partners has, so far, produced various outputs that have become success stories for industrial HR development programs.

One of the implementations of this collaboration is the delivery of grants in the form of virtual reality devices, with a total of 10 units by PT Petrokimia Gresik and the American Consulate General, carried out at this year's BPSDMI National Coordination Meeting.
