"Vocational training has become an accurate solution for expediting the fulfillment of skilled workforce demand," Deputy Minister of Manpower, Afriansyah Noor, said in a statement released Wednesday.
By raising competency, vocational training can be a solution to low workforce competitiveness in the digitalization era and work mismatch during the economic recovery period due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To meet the demand for a competent workforce, the ministry has implemented the Triple Skilling concept, which comprises skilling, up-skilling, and re-skilling that have different targets, goals, and results for every activity.
"Skills are the most important aspect for a workforce. Through skills, they can protect themselves," he said during the Northern Sumatra 2023 National Capacity Forum III, which was streamed virtually.
To encourage an improvement in human resource quality and workforce productivity in regions, he urged stakeholders to cooperate with the ministry's Vocational and Productivity Training Center (BPVP) to prepare competent Indonesian human resources.
"I expect that all of us can be more ready to improve the productivity and competitiveness of Indonesian human resources," he said.
On a separate occasion, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that vocational training is the best practice for realizing a partnership between the industry and education worlds.
Through vocational education, the government is aiming to conduct link and match between the education and industry worlds, he explained.
The Ministry of Industry has continued to encourage the creation of quality human resources through the founding of vocational schools, polytechnics, and Industry Education and Training Centers across Indonesia.
