"There are three things we must do to create a legacy for this nation's MSMEs, namely consistency, innovation, and synergy (KIS)," Warjiyo stated during the opening ceremony of the 2023 KKI, which was monitored online in Jakarta on Thursday.
In line with the principle of consistency, he laid emphasis on the need to put consistent efforts into encouraging the improvement of Indonesian MSMEs both nationally and internationally.
From the government side, this principle is reflected in the ministries' efforts to disseminate information on local MSME products, such as the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs, and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf).
The two ministries continue to encourage the Proud of Indonesian Products National Movement (Gernas BBI) and domestic tourism.
Warjiyo said that BI had brought in foreign designers to help improve the quality of local MSMEs in the fashion sector.
The central bank also holds fashion shows for local MSME products in Indonesia and abroad, such as Dubai and South Korea, and plans to hold them in Japan as well.
Regarding the principle of innovation, it is necessary to have various new initiatives in place that can support the improvement of MSMEs, such as digital payment methods so that MSMEs can make transactions more easily, Warjiyo said.
"We have 45 million users of QRIS, 30 million of which are MSMEs," he stated.
QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) is a national payment standard using QR codes that was developed by BI and the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI) in 2019.
Elaborating on the principle of synergy, Warjiyo remarked that BI could not work alone to encourage MSMEs to upgrade.
Therefore, he said, there is a need for synergy from various parties, including across ministries and agencies, which can contribute to the efforts to support MSMEs according to their respective capacities.
"That is the spirit of KIS that we continue to build to advance MSMEs and also to build the people's economy in this country," Warjiyo remarked.
