Head of Public Relations, Promotion, and Protocol Bureau of BP Batam, Ariastuty Sirait, stated here on Friday that the plan for the meeting had been discussed by a team from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs during a meeting with BP Batam on July 27, 2023.
"The meeting between the two is planned to be held on August 23, 2023," she remarked.
BP Batam will help in selecting places to be visited by the two in Batam.
"The DFAT will not only hold a bilateral meeting but also get to know Australian firms in Batam," she explained.
Sirait remarked that this meeting can open up investment opportunities, especially from Australia, which is considered large in Batam.
"They will learn from the success story of Batam that Australian companies have expanded in Batam in such a way. They will also bring a delegation of businessmen to Batam. This is an opportunity for us to introduce Batam," Sirait remarked.
Earlier, on July 3, 2023, at the business luncheon of the Annual Leaders' Meeting (ALM) in Sydney, Australia, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met with Australian business actors and investors.
Hartarto informed the business players about the developments and economic conditions in Indonesia as well as about the economic interactions between Indonesia and Australia.
He highlighted the increase in trade and investment value of the two countries since the enactment of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) in 2020.
"Australian investment in Indonesia was ranked 11th in 2022, and in the first quarter of 2023, it is in the top 10 countries investing in Indonesia," he remarked.
