We are now already a center of excellence for mothers and children in West JavaJakarta (ANTARA) - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) expressed its support for the Karawang regional general hospital (RSUD), West Java, to become a center of excellence for top services for mothers and children.
"What I want to run is pre-training for medical personnel, and Karawang RSUD has partnered with medical co-assistants or beginner doctors from universities," Head of BKKBN Hasto Wardoyo remarked here on Saturday.
The agency head expressed hope that Karawang RSUD can provide family planning services, while the partner universities hold pre-training and education for health workers.
"Thus, students can become empowered to teach the material (of family planning), and BKKBN provides the contraceptives," he remarked.
According to Wardoyo, universities that have partnered with Karawang RSUD can hold training on family planning and contraception, so medical students and health workers can put their knowledge into practice.
"We (BKKBN) will then supply the acceptors. (Many hospitals in) West Java use the methods of women's surgery (MOW)," he stated.
Wardoyo noted that MOW can be taught to resident doctors, while IUD insertion needs to be taught to general practitioners and nurses or midwives.
"There are still many general practitioners who cannot install IUDs, even though we have the tools and acceptors," he pointed out.
Acting Director of Karawang RSUD, Fitra Hergyana, stated that the hospital has conducted transformation and infrastructure improvements, so it can become a center of excellence for mothers and children.
"We are now already a center of excellence for mothers and children in West Java. The hospital has also established educational cooperation with the University of Indonesia in Depok, Padjajaran University in Bandung, and Trisakti University in Jakarta," he remarked.
Furthermore, he said that the Karawang RSUD is looking forward to becoming a satellite teaching hospital, considering that Karawang is the largest industrial area in Asia.
