Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno stated that digitizing the licensing of sports, arts, and creative economy events would offer efficiency and economic added value of up to Rp17 trillion (around US$1.12 billion).

When met at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, Uno stated that the pilot project for the licensing digitization system will commence in September 2023.

According to the minister, during the pilot project, the government will continue to conduct an evaluation to offer convenience to three thousand arts and sports events this year, with a potential economic value of up to Rp197 trillion (around US$13.02 billion).

"We expect it to encourage more events to be held. The holding of international-class events will be able to open business and employment opportunities, with a target of 4.4 million new jobs in 2024," he remarked.

Uno noted that so far, numerous complaints had been received from arts and sports event organizers who said that the license had only been issued several hours before the event starts, which consequently led to uncertainty.

The minister affirmed that digitalization shortens the stages of the licensing process, so public services for event permits will become better going forward.

He stated that the digital system would also address obstacles related to costs that need to be paid to resolve licensing and security issues.

According to Uno, the government is currently calculating the standard costs for licensing and security matters in organizing arts and sports events. The cost standardization will be trialed in September 2023.

"During the pilot project, we will convey (information) about how much the fee will be charged for security, for permits, and the PNBP (non-tax state revenue) that is generated can be reported transparently," he explained.

On that occasion, he revealed that the licensing issue is one of the causes for the British band Coldplay to only hold a one-day concert in Indonesia, while in several other countries, the concert is held for more than a day.

Coldplay is scheduled to hold its Music of the Spheres World Tour show at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium, Jakarta, on November 15, 2023.
