"We will optimally utilize the funding to bring benefits for our programs and agendas in realizing integrated and sustainable landscape management," Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso noted in his statement here on Wednesday.
In implementing the SLM MDTF II program, Indonesia has received funding assistance from the governments of Norway and Australia.
The SLM MDTF II program has a broader focus to support the climate change agenda and global carbon issues.
The program also supports Indonesia in several components, namely improvement of land administration and governance, sustainable priority landscape development, improvement of forest resource management, and equitable and inclusive growth in rural landscapes.
Moreover, the components encompass the improvement of financing, coordination, and communication on sustainable landscape management.
The SLM MDTF Steering Committee meeting, on Tuesday was held with two main objectives of highlighting the program's latest developments and providing inputs and approval on several proposed future activities.
Moegiarso explained that the government and the World Bank saw the need for a new team in the steering committee due to the expansion of SLM MDTF activities to other landscape sectors, both at the national and regional levels.
Hence, he said that Ministerial Decree No. 302 of 2023 concerning the SLM MDTF Steering Committee has been issued, and it is expected to strengthen commitment and active participation between ministries and agencies in the program.
"We also hope that the SLM MDTF program can become our guide and reference in establishing a forum for cross-sectoral coordination between ministries and agencies and regions involved in the landscape sector," he stated.
The Sustainable Landscape Management Multi Donor Trust Fund (SLM MDTF) is a program that aims to support the Indonesian government in managing landscapes that are integrated and sustainable.
The program is a collaboration between the Indonesian government and the World Bank, and it has been running since 2016.
