"A total of 204 hotspots were monitored throughout Wednesday from 1:00 a.m. to 24:00 p.m. local time," Coordinator for Data and Information of the SAMS Sepinggan Class I BMKG Balikpapan Meteorological Station Diyan Novrida stated here on Thursday.
The hotspots are indicators of forest and land fires that were detected from a location with a relatively high temperature as compared to the surrounding temperature.
The BMKG stated that the 204 hotspots were spread across six districts in East Kalimantan, including 86 hotspots in Berau, 65 in East Kutai, 40 in Kutai Kartanegara, five each in Mahakam Ulu and Paser, and three in West Kutai.
Related parties, including the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) at both the provincial and district levels, have been informed about these hotspots for further treatment.
Meanwhile, to prevent an increase in the number of hotspots, Novrida reminded all levels of society to remain vigilant by not throwing cigarette butts carelessly and not burning while managing land.
Moreover, the current dry season causes leaves and twigs to dry up, thereby increasing the likelihood of triggering forest and land fires.
The BMKG, on Monday (July 31), also detected 151 hotspots spread across seven districts. However, all these hotspots have been extinguished, while the 204 hotspots monitored on Wednesday are in different coordinates.
Novrida elaborated that the 204 hotspots detected on Wednesday included 65 hotspots in East Kutai that were spread across 11 sub-districts, including 13 hotspots in Rantau Pulung and six hotspots in Telen.
Hotspots in the 11 sub-districts also include 13 hotspots in Kaubun; 12 in Bengalon; 10 in Muara Wahau; three each in Busang and North Sangatta; two in Muara Bengkal; and one each in Muara Ancalong, Kongbeng, and Karangan.
"Meanwhile, the 40 hotspots detected in Kutai Kartanegara District were spread across five sub-districts, including three hotspots in Tabang, two in Samboja, 29 in Muara Kaman, four in Kota Bangun, and two hotspots in Tenggarong Seberang," she stated.
"All hotspots monitored today have an intermediate level of confidence," she remarked.
