We are aiming at making Indonesia the world's largest halal product producer by 2024
Tanjung Selor, North Kalimanta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has urged the Regional Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KDEKS) of North Kalimantan Province to help the central government achieve its target of 10 million halal-certified products.

"We are aiming at making Indonesia the world's largest halal product producer by 2024," VP Amin noted in Sebatik Island, Nunukan District, during a working visit to North Kalimantan on Thursday.

On the island, Amin, accompanied by Second Lady Wury, participated in the inauguration ceremony of North Kalimantan KDEKS.

He expressed the hope that the designation of Nunukan and Sebatik islands as zakat (alms)-aware islands would further strengthen the province's commitment to developing its sharia financial sector.

He reiterated that sharia economy and finance constitute a universal concept that can benefit not only Muslims, but also the general public, as both can be utilized in tandem with the conventional economic and financial system.

"We can even find such a practice in several countries, where Muslims are considered as a minority group," he pointed out.

Meanwhile, North Kalimantan Governor Zainal A. Paliwang, who is also serving as the head of the KDEKS, warmly welcomed Amin's visit to North Kalimantan, stating that the visit could encourage KDEKS management to optimally carry out its given mandate.

The provincial government has been working in collaboration with the related stakeholders to initiate a number of activities aimed at developing sharia economy and finance in the province, including a training program for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The training program is expected to help North Kalimantan MSME entrepreneurs ensure that they are making products that are eligible to receive halal certification, thereby supporting the country's determination to certify 10 million products as halal.

Furthermore, North Kalimantan is striving to develop its sharia industry by focusing on the development and expansion of the halal industry, sharia financial industry, sharia social funds, and sharia businesses.
