"The implementation of the 2023 IHYA is expected to motivate the halal industry ecosystem to collaborate in realizing Indonesia's vision as the world's leading halal producer," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated at the IHYA 2023 kick-off event here on Thursday.
Kartasasmita remarked that Indonesia should produce its own halal products while fulfilling the world's halal market demand and become a major player in the halal industry.
He pointed out that the processing industry contributed 0.92 percent to the national economic growth of 5.03 percent in the 2023 first quarter, the largest among other sectors.
The halal industry is part of the processing industry that focuses on increasing value added and is expected to become one of the national economic drivers.
"In the future, the national economic growth will be dominated by sharia economic growth through the halal industry," he remarked.

Meanwhile, this year's IHYA is aimed at educating business actors about the vast potential of the halal industry, lauding all parties that have supported the halal industry development, and giving support to halal industry players.
"We want to tell the industry and business actors that they are not alone. We will help them to get halal certification as well as market access domestically and globally," Kartasasmita stated.
The ministry has invited the entire halal industry ecosystem to take part in IHYA that consists of industrial companies, industrial estates, government agencies, higher education institutions, financial service institutions, and community organizations.
