…return home since our country needs young people with ideas, better future vision…
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked students who have been awarded scholarships through the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) to return home after completing their studies and share their knowledge with the Indonesian people.

"The most important for me is: return home, return home, return home, though the wages here are a little lower, but still return home," he stressed at the LPDP Fest in Jakarta on Thursday.

While giving a speech at the fest, he repeatedly encouraged students who have been awarded a scholarship through the government endowment fund to return home and contribute to Indonesia's development.

According to Jokowi, the recipients of the LPDP scholarship are crucial human resources who can help tackle the challenges faced in the development of the country.

"Despite the good facilities in other countries, still return home since our country needs young people with ideas, better future vision, and we do lack these human resources," he said.

The government has allocated a budget for LPDP of up to Rp139 trillion, which marks a significant increase compared to 2015, when it was only Rp15 trillion, he added.

"Having a lot of money (state funds) put into the LPDP, only with this (scholarship) our human resources can compete with other countries. The key is here," he said.

The fest was also attended by Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim; Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati; and Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.
