"I would like to ask ICMI to maintain and bolster its contribution to the efforts toward developing human resources by translating constructive and strategic ideas into concrete actions," he said while delivering the keynote speech at an event organized by ICMI in Jakarta on Thursday.
The minister urged all parties, including the government, the private sector, and social organizations, to collectively help the country prepare and produce quality human resources in the productive age group.
He further elaborated that a generation of high quality is of the essence to break the roots of issues related to poverty and shrink the unemployment rate in the country.
"We need to prepare them (people in the productive age group) by working optimally," he said while highlighting the need for paying attention to the importance of saving for old age.
Minister Effendy further informed that the government has prepared a variety of social security programs such as insurance coverage for work accidents, death, old age, and lay-offs, with the objective of providing the people with a sense of safety and security.
"Indeed, this is the least we can do for now. However, the programs can serve as a foundation for other steps in the future," he noted.
He also extended his appreciation to Satoshi Myajima, the president director of a Japanese company, for collaborating with the ICMI to give 74 Indonesian vocational high school students the opportunity to enroll in vocational and human resource development training programs in Japan.
The PMK minister then expressed the hope that both parties would sustain and intensify their collaboration in the future.
