Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Government has approved the plan to propose the country as the host of the 2025 Volleyball World Cup, Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo announced here on Tuesday.

The minister asked the management of the Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) to convey what needs to be prepared to make the bid for hosting the Volleyball World Cup successful.

"I was asked to coordinate the preparation and readiness by PBVSI. The government must immediately prepare for this," he informed.

According to him, the government is striving to make Indonesia the host of world championships, especially popular sports like volleyball.

"I think the government's commitment to volleyball is very high. This opportunity must be used by PBVSI. I hope that we will intensify communication and coordination," Ariotedjo said.

Furthermore, the minister urged regions to build volleyball arenas that can accommodate a large number of spectators.

He said that each major island in the country should have at least one volleyball arena to ensure more uniform development of the sport.

The presence of a league can bring high income to the region, he added.

"Better leagues and clubs can generate better athletes," the minister said.

He also urged PBVSI to improve volleyball coaching, infrastructure, and the ecosystem.

It is hoped that if Indonesia is elected as the host of the Volleyball World Cup, it will benefit the country, he said.

"This is the government's commitment to enhance volleyball in terms of achievement and make it more massive in the community," he added.

The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) also expressed its support for PBVSI's efforts to take the national volleyball team to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

In July, the volleyball national team became the general champion of the SEA V League 2023.
