Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, with several ministers and the Indonesian Military (TNI) commander, will set up base in Papua for several days in early September this year to accelerate development efforts in the province.

Spokesperson for the Vice President Masduki Baidlowi said here on Friday that Amin will be in Papua to help find solutions to problems faced by local governments.

"Earlier, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture reported several important things to the VP, especially those related to the results of his visit to Papua," he informed.

Baidlowi said the Vice President is planning to visit Papua again on September 4, 2023, and set up a temporary office there with a number of ministers.

Amin will remain in Papua for a few days and visit some regions there, he added. Some time ago, he also toured a number of cities in Papua for a week.

During his visit in September, the Vice President will be accompanied by the TNI commander and several ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD; Minister of Co-operatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki; Minister of Investment Bahlil Lahadalia; and Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono.

According to Baidlowi, many problems in Papua have not been resolved since the Vice President's last visit to the province.

Therefore, he will hold a number of important meetings to listen to the aspirations of acting governors and district heads, especially on issues related to effective strategies to realize security and welfare.

He will also visit Biak to review sanitation handling and preparations for the Sail Teluk Cenderawasih (STC) event.

Meanwhile, Minister Effendy said the runway at Sinak Airport, Papua, needs to be extended to accommodate large-bodied aircraft such as the TNI's Hercules plane.
