The Agriculture Ministry is reserving shallots that are ready to be distributed in the event of a region facing a deficit.Bantul (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture has stocked 5,750 tons of shallots and has expressed its readiness to distribute them to regions in Indonesia that are experiencing a deficit of the commodity.
"The Agriculture Ministry is reserving shallots that are ready to be distributed in the event of a region facing a deficit. In 2023, we have prepared 5,750 tons of shallots," Director Feneral of Horticulture at the ministry Prihasto Setyanto said in Yogyakarta on Friday.
The ministry has prepared shallot reserves to assist regions that have been affected by the current hot weather and drought, he elaborated adding that his side is striving to secure 8,750 tons of shallots for next year.
According to Setyanto, the ministry has formulated several measures to control inflation by addressing food stock deficits, which include efforts to forge collaboration with major food producers from across Indonesia.
"We are consistently providing updates to Mr. Minister of Agriculture on various workable measures that we have prepared for controlling inflation, including by forging collaboration with major food producers in regions," he informed.
Such a collaboration is expected to help the country sustain its economic stability, he added.
He also affirmed that the ministry is currently investing maximum efforts to implement a national movement to help the country tackle the El Nino heat phenomenon, which can pose a threat to the agricultural sector.
According to him, the movement is focused on ensuring stock availability of food commodities, especially rice, as the staple food of the Indonesian nation.
"Indonesia is projected to experience a longer period of dry season this year until October or November. Hence, the El Nino anticipatory national movement is expected to help the country keep its food stocks stable," he explained.
