Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Trade Ministry has discussed food cooperation with India's Rice Exporters Association CG (TREACG) as part of its commitment to maintaining national food supply and stability, especially in anticipation of a long drought.

In a statement released here on Saturday, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said that he discussed business-to-business (B-to-B) food cooperation with TREACG to open wider access for rice from India.

"I encourage TREACG to continue to improve food cooperation with Indonesia by continuing its communication with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to prepare wider access for rice from India on a B-to-B basis," Hasan added.

The minister also asked TREACG to continue to coordinate with Indonesian rice business players.

Furthermore, he urged TREACG to hold more intensive discussions with the government of India, especially related to the ban on the export of non-basmati rice.

According to him, the policy does not align with India's commitment to support food security as the world's largest exporter of rice.

Hasan met with TREACG on the sidelines of the G20 Trade and Investment Ministers' Meeting (TIMM) in New Delhi on Friday (August 25, 2023).

The Trade Minister was accompanied by director general of international trade negotiations at the Trade Ministry, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, and his advisor Bara Hasibuan.

Hasan also attended the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Roundtable Discussion on Friday.

According to him, the discussion was an important opportunity for Indonesia and India to explore mutually beneficial cooperation for the future.

He added that the presence of India's leading CEOs at the discussion demonstrated the high commitment to strengthening Indonesia-India economic relations through the spirit of mutual understanding and collaboration.

Hasan also praised some parties' interest in investing in Indonesia, especially in infrastructure projects like the new capital IKN Nusantara.
