Jakarta (ANTARA) - Some domestic companies are preparing to carry out groundbreaking for the construction of hotels and restaurants in the new national capital Nusantara in East Kalimantan in September this year.

This information was conveyed by Investment Minister and head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Bahlil Lahadalia, at the groundbreaking of a factory construction project in Cikarang, West Java.

"The (investment) is running. Recently, I took a team to Nusantara with the (leaders) of domestic companies such as Mr. Aguan (Sugianto Kusuma, founder of Agung Sedayu Group) and Mr. Anthoni Salim (chairperson of Salim Group)," Lahadalia said.

They expressed their readiness to conduct groundbreaking for hotel and restaurant projects in the country's new capital, he added.

The groundbreaking for the projects will be carried out in September 2023 and the construction is targeted to be completed before August 2024. The government is also planning to hold the Independence Day ceremony in Nusantara next year

"It is targeted to be completed in 2024, that's why we are working very fast," the minister said.

However, he did not specify the value of the total investment made by the national private consortium in Nusantara. He only informed that the conglomerates will build supporting facilities such as hotels, restaurants, and malls.

"I will check again the total investment value, but it is certain that there will be hotels, restaurants, and malls," he said.

Earlier, the Domestic Investment (PMDN) consortium visited Nusantara in July. The consortium's total planned investment is in the range of Rp30 trillion (US$1.9 billion) to Rp40 trillion (US$2.6 billion).

The domestic investors emphasized that they need ease and accessibility to infrastructure and facilities, such as electricity, water, and telecommunication networks.

Meanwhile, the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) said earlier that Nusantara will become the first city with an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Committee in Indonesia.
