Denpasar (ANTARA) - Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) Minister Abdullah Azwar Anas stated that the government plans to transfer 1,800 civil servants to the new capital city Nusantara (IKN), located in East Kalimantan, in the first relocation batch.

"The plan is to initially transfer 1,800 (civil servants) to the designated places in July (of 2024)," he remarked at a development ceremonial activity in Denpasar City, Bali, on Monday.

The minister noted that the government has prepared the mechanism for the transfer of civil servants, adding that a total of 16,900 people, comprising civil servants as well as personnel from the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), will be transferred to Nusantara.

"About eleven thousand of them are civil servants, while the rest are (personnel) from the TNI and Polri. Based on our recent review on the progress (in development) of (housing) towers in IKN recently, July next year will be the date (of the first relocation batch)," he revealed.

The government is planning to construct as many as 47 towers of flats to accommodate civil servants in the new capital city. According to Minister Anas, no bureaucrats have expressed objections to the relocation discourse.

In fact, numerous civil servants have requested that their names be listed in the transfer formation, he remarked.

Anas further noted that most of the civil servants looking to be transferred to Nusantara are young employees possessing a sound level of understanding about digital technology.

He opined that the beautiful and preserved natural conditions in IKN and available incentives have drawn the employees to join the transfer process.

"Moreover, the apartments (flats) are of high quality and the oxygen quality is better than Jakarta's polluted air, which drives people to wear masks. There (in IKN), they (young bureaucrats) will not need to queue for transportation," he remarked.

The minister then expressed hope that the varied types of convenience that will be offered at IKN will facilitate digitally-literate young employees to give their best work performance to serve the country and the nation.
