"We are fully aware of the future of Indonesia and planet Earth. That is why we have initiated a higher education program," she informed on Thursday at a send-off for 25 BMKG employees, who will leave for the United Kingdom next week.
The employees will pursue postgraduate programs in meteorology, climatology, and geophysics at several British universities that have collaborated with BMKG, she said.
The collaboration was formed after the agency prepared a list of eligible candidates while universities in the UK recruited the agency's talented employees by offering them letters of acceptance, she added.
Each applicant received four or five offers, and many of the applicants from the first batch obtained letters of acceptance from universities in the UK, she said.
Due to the promising result of the first batch, more British universities will hopefully be willing to collaborate with the BMKG, she added.
For the second batch, the number of eligible applicants has exceeded 100, she disclosed.
A total of 67 talented applicants were granted scholarships for postgraduate programs at overseas universities. Thirty of them were funded by the Indonesian government's Education Endowment Fund (LPDP), she added.
