Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan provincial government, through its regional apparatus work units (SKPD), has distributed clean water to areas and villages affected by drought.

The distribution of water assistance was carried out based on a directive from the South Kalimantan Governor, Sahbirin Noor, Head of the South Kalimantan Communication and Information Office Muhammad Muslim said in Banjarbaru on Saturday.

According to the governor's instruction, the distribution was needed to help people experiencing a water crisis due to drought.

"Our office distributed clean water to communities in the Sungai Tiung River area, Banjarbaru City," he said.

Thousands of liters of clean water were distributed to communities in need to help ease their burden in facing the drought.

Muslim said that officials from not only the province's Communication and Information Office, but other offices under the provincial government also went to rural areas to provide clean water to drought-affected communities.

"In addition, we also carried out mitigation against potential forest and land fires," he informed.

Meanwhile, the province's Agriculture and Food Security Office carried out a similar activity to provide clean water to communities in several regions in the province.

"We distributed clean water to the community in Bangkal Village, Takisung, Tanah Laut District," Head of the South Kalimantan Agriculture and Food Security Office Syamsir Rahman informed.

According to him, the community needs clean water to survive. During the dry season, many rivers and wells in the area have dried up.
